Discover Your Fall Decorating Personality: From Minimalist Maven to Halloween Enthusiast

Oh, fall! That magical season when the air turns crisp, the leaves crunch under each step, and every store starts stocking pumpkin-flavored everything. As a realtor and mom, I’ve seen every type of fall décor out there, and let me tell you, it’s as varied as the colors of the leaves! So, let’s have a little fun and dive into the six types of people you’ll meet when it comes to autumn decorating—and how each one adds their unique flair to the season!

1. The Pumpkin Overachiever

These are the folks who practically live in a pumpkin patch. The minute September rolls around, their home is overtaken by pumpkins. Big ones, small ones, painted ones, glittery ones—you name it, they’ve got it. Their house looks like it could host a Thanksgiving parade!

Signature Decor: If it doesn’t have a pumpkin on it, it’s not allowed in their home. Expect to see pumpkin-themed everything from towels to placemats.

Catchphrase: “Why stop at one pumpkin when you can have twenty? More is more, right?”

Bonus Points: They’ve probably got a dedicated “fall” room where every square inch is covered in pumpkin-themed goodies. And yes, their kids’ Halloween costumes might just match the décor.

2. The Minimalist Maven

For the Minimalist Maven, less is more. Their fall décor is so understated it might be mistaken for an empty house if you’re not paying attention. Think beige and ivory pumpkins and one tasteful garland.

Signature Decor: A lone, strategically placed gourd on the coffee table and maybe a subtle wreath on the door.

Catchphrase: “I like to keep it simple. My home is my sanctuary, not a pumpkin patch.”

Bonus Points: They manage to make a single leaf wreath look like a masterpiece. And they probably have a knack for finding the most elegant décor that somehow still looks effortless.

3. The DIY Diva

If you’ve ever wondered who’s behind all those amazing DIY fall crafts on Pinterest, it’s the DIY Diva. Their home is like a gallery of homemade fall masterpieces—hand-painted signs, glittery pine cones, and leaves pressed into art. They might even have a hot glue gun at the ready just in case inspiration strikes!

Signature Decor: Anything they’ve crafted themselves. Expect to see an array of glitter, glue, and, of course, plenty of autumnal love.

Catchphrase: “I saw this amazing idea on Pinterest and thought, ‘How hard could it be?’”

Bonus Points: Their garage looks like a craft store exploded, and they’ve got enough supplies to make their own fall festival if they wanted to!

4. The Seasonal Chef

For the Seasonal Chef, fall isn’t just about decorations; it’s a full-blown culinary event. Their home smells like a mix of cinnamon, nutmeg, and maybe a little bit of pumpkin pie. Decorations double as snacks—think garlands made of cinnamon sticks and centerpieces that are really pies in disguise.

Signature Decor: Edible arrangements and fall-themed treats that you can actually eat. The centerpiece might just be a pie waiting for the right moment to be devoured.

Catchphrase: “If it’s not delicious, it doesn’t make the cut for fall décor!”

Bonus Points: They’re known for hosting “Fall Tasting Parties” where you can sample everything from apple cider donuts to homemade pumpkin soup while admiring their seasonal décor.

5. The Classic Connoisseur

The Classic Connoisseur is all about timeless elegance. Their fall décor looks like it’s been passed down through generations, with rich, warm tones and classic patterns. Think deep oranges, traditional plaid, and maybe a touch of gold.

Signature Decor: Elegant and classic pieces that have a touch of nostalgia. Their mantel might feature vintage candlesticks and a perfectly arranged cornucopia.

Catchphrase: “There’s something so comforting about classic fall décor. It’s like a warm hug from the past.”

Bonus Points: They’ve probably got a “fall family photo” tradition, and their home always looks like it’s ready for a magazine spread.

6. The Halloween Enthusiast

For the Halloween Enthusiast, fall is a one-way ticket to spooky-ville. The moment the calendar hits September, their home transforms into a haunted house. Forget pumpkins; their décor is all about cobwebs, skeletons, and a variety of ghoulish delights.

Signature Decor: A graveyard scene in the front yard, life-sized skeletons hanging from the trees, and a door that practically screams “Trick or Treat.”

Catchphrase: “If it’s not scary, it’s not Halloween!”

Bonus Points: They’ve got an impressive collection of Halloween costumes and their house might even feature a “spooky” soundtrack on a loop. September 1st is their official start date for hauntingly good décor!

So there you have it—six fall decorating styles, each as unique as the people behind them. Whether you’re a pumpkin enthusiast, a minimalist, a DIY aficionado, a culinary genius, a classic decorator, or a Halloween fanatic, there’s no wrong way to embrace the season. And if you’re thinking it might be time for a new home where you can really let your fall décor flag fly, you know where to find me!

Happy decorating, and here’s to a cozy and colorful fall! 🍂🎃🧡

1960s: Mod and Boho Chic Fun

The 1960s were a decade of dynamic contrast, where bedrooms reflected both sleek, mod sophistication and laid-back, boho chic vibes. Whether you were drawn to bold, graphic patterns or a more relaxed, beach-inspired style, the 60s offered a range of looks for personalizing your space.

How It Looked:

Walls: Imagine walls clad in bold, graphic patterns—think black and white chevrons, large-scale florals, or geometric shapes in bright, contrasting colors like orange, turquoise, and purple. These designs created a striking and modern look. Alternatively, envision walls inspired by boho chic, featuring relaxed, beachy prints or soft, earthy tones.

Furniture: Picture sleek, low-profile furniture with clean lines, such as streamlined platform beds and modular sofas for a mod look. On the boho side, imagine comfortable, overstuffed furniture with a laid-back vibe, like rattan chairs and low, cushioned floor seating.

Accessories: Add iconic touches like a shiny, chrome lamp and a groovy lava lamp with its swirling colors for a mod touch. Pop art prints or mod artwork, shag rugs, and abstract-patterned cushions created an extra splash of 60s style. For a boho chic influence, think of woven macramé hangings, beaded curtains, and vibrant throw blankets with psychedelic patterns. A touch of coastal charm might include seashell decorations or surfboards as wall art, echoing the carefree vibes of movies like Gidget.

Villains: they’re the ones we can’t help but find intriguing. While we’ve had fun dreaming up modern-day pads for Disney princesses, let’s sneak a peek into the shadows and uncover where classic villains might call home!

The Evil Queen: Mansion in Beverly Hills

The Evil Queen is absolutely terrifying! I mean, poor Snow White, right? She’s just over there minding her own business, trying to be the fairest of them all, and then here comes the Queen with all her stunning beauty and regal vibe, but we all know she’s really just deeply insecure and a bit on the manipulative side. And can we talk about those fancy robes? She is demanding her presence be known!

Undoubtedly, the Evil Queen’s residence would be an opulent mansion nestled in the lush hills of Beverly Hills, blending modern luxury with classic elegance. Its prestigious address reflects her insatiable desire for opulence and status, featuring a grand entrance and sweeping driveway that welcome esteemed guests to her realm of extravagance. The luxurious home is adorned with intricately carved grand archways, majestic towering ceilings with ornate chandeliers, and furnishings fit for royalty. The extravagant mansion features sprawling gardens, meticulously manicured lawns, serene water features, and opulent outdoor entertainment areas, all designed to captivate and enchant visitors. The mansion’s lavish ballroom hosts elaborate events, dazzling galas, and extravagant parties, mirroring the Queen’s love for grandeur and luxury. Of course, a large sweeping spiral staircase stands as a focal point, allowing her to descend dramatically, her opulent and exquisitely designed couture gowns billowing around her, leaving a lasting impression on all those in her presence.

Lady Tremaine: Penthouse in the Upper East Side

Lady Tremaine in “Cinderella” is a dramatic character, driven by ambition and a strong desire for status. With her sharp features and stern expression, she creates turmoil in Cinderella’s life, favoring her own daughters, Anastasia and Drizella, and leaving Cinderella in a supporting role. Anastasia, with her red hair, appears forgetful, while Drizella, the sassy brunette, adds to Cinderella’s challenges. The sisters indulge in vanity and selfishness, supporting Lady Tremaine’s grand performance and leaving Cinderella to handle all the behind-the-scenes drama.

Where would this wicked trio live today? The answer is obvious: the Upper East Side! Lady Tremaine and her daughters would undoubtedly reside in a luxurious penthouse in this affluent Manhattan neighborhood, known for wealth, class, and cultural vibrancy. Their penthouse represents luxury and sophistication, situated in a prestigious building with panoramic views of Central Park and the city skyline. Guests would be offered the finest Champagne upon arrival, and the living room features plush velvet sofas, tasteful artwork, and a grand mahogany dining table for extravagant dinners. Both daughters have lavish bedrooms, with Anastasia’s featuring a floral theme and Drizella’s exuding sophistication with deep purple tones and modern decor. Lady Tremaine’s study is a sanctuary of antique books and a luxurious desk, with a terrace offering exquisite views and stylish seating areas.

Maleficent: Gothic-Inspired Mansion in France

Maleficent, the fashion icon of the fairy tale world, rocks a stunning pale green complexion, high cheekbones that could cut glass, and eyes that glow brighter than a shooting star. Always dressed to impress in flowing black or dark purple robes, and let’s not forget those fabulous bat-like wings. As for her vengeful schemes and malevolent nature, well, let’s just say they’re fueled by a healthy dose of pride and a passionate love affair with dark magic. She’s the envy of every aspiring villain out there!

Maleficent’s dream home is a gothic-inspired mansion nestled in the Loire Valley, France, with breathtaking views. Her favorite colors, including midnight black, blood red, and royal purple, would adorn every room. The architecture would feature subtle ornamental elements, evoking mystery and grandeur. Inside, elegance with a dark twist would be found in every corner, from the imposing staircase to the opulent chandeliers. Elegantly upholstered furniture and a grand ballroom with a vaulted ceiling complete the residence. Maleficent would enjoy the serenity of the twilight on her balcony with her favorite Mulled Wine and Charred Steak.

Ursula: Cliffside Villa in the Amalfi Coast

Oh, Ursula, the sea witch from Disney’s “The Little Mermaid,” is quite the showstopper! She has pale lavender skin, a voluminous upper body, and an octopus-like lower body with eight tentacles. But what makes her even more striking is her stark white hair, bold eyebrows, and dramatic makeup with red lipstick and a prominent beauty mark. Her intellect and magical prowess are used to satisfy her thirst for power and dominance over the ocean. Quite a character, that Ursula!

So, where would Ursula be now? Well, she would be relaxing by the sea in the Amalfi Coast of Italy. Her villa would be perched atop a rugged cliff, with a view of the never-ending ocean. The color scheme inside would be black, white, red, and purple. You’d find lavish velvet drapes in deep shades of purple and black, along with nautical-themed trinkets. The cozy living room would feature plush sofas and armchairs, inviting you to enjoy the sea view from the large windows. As evening falls, Ursula would be sitting on her terrace enjoying a glass of wine and decadent lobster and caviar while listening to the sounds of the seagulls and waves.

Gaston: Sprawling Ranch in Montana

Gaston’s rugged good looks and muscular physique may be appealing, but his personality is a different story. He tends to boast about his achievements and lacks humility, making it challenging to engage in a conversation with him. His overbearing presence and unsubtle charm can quickly clear a room, yet some are still inexplicably drawn to his larger-than-life persona.

Where would we find this brute of a man? Look no further than Montana, USA! It’s Gaston’s perfect playground for his sprawling ranch, where he can hunt, ride horses, and do all sorts of manly stuff amidst stunning scenery. `Jafar from “Aladdin” is tall, has a slender frame, an impressive beard, and a wicked personality. Dressed in black robes and a turban, he looks like he’s ready to star in a dark magician’s reboot of a classic movie. His ambition, cunning, and love for theatrical villainy are as impressive as his hypnotically arched eyebrows. He’s the type who might bring a snake to a tea party just to stir things up, all the while plotting to seize control of an entire kingdom with his magic staff and an evil laugh that could use a vacation.

In Jafar’s lavish Dubai penthouse, entertaining is a carefully planned display of power and sophistication. Each guest visit is strategically organized to further his ambitions and strengthen his global influence. Guests are welcomed into a grand foyer with marble floors and intricate Arabian mosaics. The living area exudes luxury with velvet sofas, Persian carpets, and priceless artifacts reflecting his deep ties to the region’s heritage. Here, Jafar treats guests to a luxurious blend of Middle Eastern delicacies and international cuisine, expertly prepared by a private chef. His master bedroom is adorned with silk and velvet. Throughout the penthouse, Jafar employs discreet security measures to ensure privacy, fostering an environment where alliances are forged in luxury and secrecy.

Prince Hans: Contemporary Mansion in Stockholm

Prince Hans from “Frozen” epitomizes deceptive charm cloaked in a handsome package. With his disarming smile and immaculate appearance, he’s the kind of Disney prince who could convince anyone of anything, only to leave them cold-hearted. Initially portraying the perfect gentleman with his politeness and promises, he turns out to be as trustworthy as a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Hans is the guy who offers to help build a snowman but ends up scheming to take over your kingdom while you’re distracted by his apparent goodwill.

Prince Hans’s mansion in Stockholm combines modern design with pure luxury. The exterior is sleek with glass panels, while the interior exudes a minimalist vibe with marble and velvet. Imagine a spacious living room for kicking back, a cozy lower-level family room for hanging out, and a kitchen with a connected dining area for whipping up some killer grub. With its funky half-level layout, this design delivers a versatile and dynamite living experience that still wows with its retro flair.

1970’s: Contemporary Style

Throw on your mood ring, favorite pair of bell bottoms, and let’s shimmy into the funky 1970s. This groovy decade really shook up the housing scene! The contemporary style homes sashayed onto the stage with their modern, clean lines, massive windows, and open floor plans. These houses were all about blurring the boundaries between indoors and outdoors, using materials like wood and stone. They even threw in some far-out shapes and wacky designs, a real departure from the ordinary. And hey, they hopped on the eco-friendly bandwagon, using trendy materials to make everything more efficient with a touch of Mother Nature’s seal of approval. Peace, love, and sustainable architecture!

1980’s: Neo-Colonial

The 80s weren’t just about big hair and bright colors – they were also the era of questionable fashion and some interesting architectural choices. While people strutted around in their bold fashion statements, the most popular home style, the neo-colonial architecture, stood with timeless elegance, as if saying, “I’m here to stay, darling!” This architectural trend embraced features like symmetrical facades, multi-paned windows, and formal entrances, giving off an air of “look at me, I’m classy!” The homes managed to blend modern amenities with old-school charm, making them the architectural equivalent of mullets – business in the front, party in the back.

The 90’s: McMansions

The 90s were an absolute rollercoaster of a decade, with the birth of the internet, grunge music, and some seriously questionable fashion choices that still haunt our photo albums today. Just when we thought we couldn’t handle any more excitement, along came the McMansion craze, totally reshaping the suburban landscape. These larger-than-life, over-the-top McMansions became the poster children of conspicuous consumption and aspirational living. Not to mention the countless debates they sparked about architectural integrity and urban sprawl. Oh, the 90s, what a time to be alive!

2000’s: Neo-Eclectic

Welcome to the wild 2000s! We rocked low-rise jeans, flipped our fancy flip phones, and binged on MTV while living in the quirkiest Neo-Eclectic Homes. This design is a wacky mishmash of styles from different architectural traditions and periods. It’s all about tech, with entertainment centers, gaming consoles, and early attempts at home automation that were more entertaining than efficient. The open floor plan is perfect for epic movie nights, intense game showdowns, and spontaneous dance-offs. These Neo-Eclectic homes are all about the details and boast better building materials than those flashy McMansions of the 90s.

2010’s: Modern Farmhouse

The 2010s saw the birth of the modern farmhouse trend, where contemporary and traditional elements got together for a wild ride. Imagine reclaimed wood and industrial accents arranging a fancy party next to white shiplap walls, all under the spotlight of the great outdoors flooding in through large windows. Outside, gabled roofs and quaint front porches looked like they were trying to outdo each other in the “most charming” contest. This architectural style keeps reinventing itself, offering homeowners a timeless aesthetic.

Present Day

Today, homes are like time travelers, juggling the past and the future while preaching the gospel of sustainability, functionality, and nature hugging. This hodgepodge results in living spaces that are easy on the eyes and the environment, bringing together earthy elements and eco-friendly stuff. It’s all about keeping it simple and classy, with a sprinkle of fancy tech to spice up the functionality.

The transition from traditional to modern architecture is fascinating! Homes have evolved to reflect changing trends, from cozy cottages to towering skyscrapers. Each architectural style tells a captivating tale, mirroring the essence of its era and society. It’s amazing to see how architecture has captured the evolving tastes and lifestyles of society, representing cultural narratives. Who knows what the next big architectural trend will bring!

This legendary TV show wormed its way into the hearts of gazillions of fans with its quirky family shenanigans and characters you just can’t forget. The Brady Bunch crib, decked out with its far-out architecture and retro interior, became a total emblem of an era bursting with hope, upheaval, and some seriously funky social changes. As the show skyrocketed to fame, the pad itself turned into a pop culture sensation, capturing all the spirit and charm of the ’70s. The Golden Girls

Location: 245 N. Saltair Ave., Brentwood, California

“Miami, you’re cuter than an… intrauterine.” — Rose

Picture it… Florida, 1980s! Our fabulous ladies embracing their bachelorette lives. This bright and cheery abode was bursting with pastel hues, a tropical paradise, and an absurd amount of lively, over-the-top florals in every nook and cranny. These gals created an atmosphere that felt like a vacation at a quirky botanical garden. And that living room… Let’s just say it was a jungle of lush greenery and wacky rattan furniture, turning the place into the ultimate golden girls paradise! I’d gladly live out my sunset years with girls!

Full House

Location: 1709 Broderick St., San Francisco, CA

“Everywhere you look, everywhere you go, there’s a heart, a hand to hold onto.”

Although it technically started filming in the 80’s, many of us have clocked a ridiculous amount of hours at the Tanner residence in the 1990s. Their iconic San Francisco home felt more homey than our actual homes, which is saying something! I mean, those living room walls were a wild explosion of colors and quirky artwork that somehow didn’t clash with the family photos. And let’s not even get started on the kitchen – it was basically the heartbeat of the entire show, dishing out heartwarming family moments faster than you could say “cut!” From the bedrooms that housed more toys than an FAO Schwarz to the attic where DJ, Stephanie, and Michelle had more heart-to-heart talks than a therapist’s office, every nook and cranny holds enough memories to make a nostalgia junkie weep. The cozy feeling of the set made us all feel like honorary Tanner family members!

Beverly Hills 90210

Location: 1675 E Altadena Dr, Altadena, CA

“First day of school. Strange city, new house, no friends…I’m psyched!” -Brandon Walsh

Who wouldn’t dream of living in the oh-so-famous 90210 zip code? After escaping the frozen tundra of Minnesota, The Walsh Family plunged into the glamorous, sun-drenched life of sunny California. Their home exuded the classic charm of Spanish-style architecture, with its white stucco, red tiled roof, and those fancy curved archways! Let’s not overlook the balcony where Brenda pined after Dylan! People from every corner of the country longed for a piece of that enchanting wonderland, and once inside, the allure only grew stronger, revealing a world of comfort, luxury, and all-around good vibes.

The Fresh Prince of Bel Air

Location: 251 North Bristol Avenue, Los Angeles, CA 90049

“Yo, this is better than Love Boat! This boy gonna be maxing and relaxing.” – Will Smith

From his humble beginnings in West Philadelphia, he somehow ended up in the fancy world of Bel-Air, living the high life among the elite. The Banks’ Mansion was like something out of a billionaire’s fever dream, with its grand columns, pristine white facade, and overall “look at me, I’m rich” vibe. Once you stepped inside, you were smacked in the face with wealth and refinement, from the fancy art to the exquisite furniture. The huge estate even had perfectly manicured gardens and breathtaking views, a far cry from the rough city streets where he started.

The Nanny

Location: 7 E 75th St, New York, NY

“She was out on her fanny. So over the bridge from Flushing to the Sheffield’s door. She was there to sell make-up, but the father saw more. She had style! She had flair! She was there. That’s how she became the Nanny!”

Ms. Fran Fine found herself in quite the unexpected situation when she innocently set out to sell makeup and ended up at the doorstep of the Sheffield residence! The exquisite Manhattan townhome she encountered was a sight to behold, a luxurious abode that most people can only fantasize about. The grand entrance alone was enough to take anyone’s breath away, with its magnificent staircase serving as the perfect runway for Fran to showcase her finest ensembles. Each step she took inside the opulent townhome was like stepping into a world of glamour and sophistication, a world she never thought she would be a part of.

In the late 90s and early 2000s, we had two iconic apartments we couldn’t live without. One was a cozy city loft with old brick walls and a great skyline view. The other was a charming brownstone walk-up with a large kitchen perfect for hosting dinner parties. Both places hold a special spot in our memories, each contributing to a unique chapter in our lives. Any guesses?

Friends

Location: Greenwich Village, New York City at 90 Bedford Street at the corner of Grove Street

“This is a girls’ apartment! That is a boy’s apartment! It’s dirty and it smells!” -Rachel

Monica Geller totally nailed the interior design of this humble apartment! The cozy and welcoming vibe, combined with the flood of natural light from the ginormous window, created an atmosphere of bright colors that was simply off the charts. Just imagine chilling in that delightful kitchen, having a chatty banter with buddies, or lounging on the oh-so-inviting couch, enjoying games and good-natured laughter.

Sex and the City

Location: 60 Perry St, New York, NY

“Beauty is fleeting, but a rent-controlled apartment overlooking the park is forever.” – Carrie Bradshaw

Carrie Bradshaw snagged a rent-controlled West Village flat between Park and Madison, New York. Picture this: a charming pre-war building with a fireplace and a view of the bustling city streets below. The interior had that classic New York vibe, you know, a little outdated but oh-so-charming. The living room was like a vintage furniture museum, oozing old-world elegance, and the kitchen? Let’s just say it had a ‘unique’ appeal. As she poked around, she discovered some quirky surprises – a vintage rotary phone in the hallway and hidden storage compartments in the bedroom. Sure, it needed some TLC, but the place had character! It was like finding a diamond in the rough, New York style.

The Soprano’s

Location: 12 Aspen Drive, Cedar Grove, NJ

“I’d like to propose a toast. To my family. Someday soon, you’re gonna have families of your own. And if you’re lucky, you’ll remember the little moments…like this…that were good.” – Tony Soprano

I mean, can you even call it a list without Tony Soprano’s legendary estate? We’re talking about the ducks casually chilling in the pool like they own the place, the entrance that screams “I’m too rich for my own good,” the kitchen where he casually scarfed down his capicola like it’s nobody’s business, and that never-ending driveway where you can flaunt your bathrobe elegance while scooping up the morning paper. I mean, the grand living room was decked out like it’s auditioning for an Italian soap opera, and don’t even get me started on the backyard – it’s like a fancy English garden got stuck in Jersey. Oh, and let’s not forget the master bedroom, fit for a mob boss with its swanky bathroom and a walk-in closet big enough to get lost in. This place; a sanctuary of comfort, luxury, and questionable decorating choices.

The Jetson’s

Location: Orbit City (We will use our imaginations!)

“The Jetsons lived in smart homes in the luxury city of Orbit City in the stratosphere…”

And just for laughs… let’s take a peek into the future! How about those Jetsons and their out-of-this-world futuristic abode? I mean, talk about a techy’s paradise! Picture their robot maid, Rosie, effortlessly handling all the housework and whipping up gourmet meals with fancy kitchen gizmos. The family zipping around in flying cars, embracing that full-on futuristic lifestyle. And don’t even get me started on their smart wardrobe, with clothes that magically adjust for any occasion. It’s a world jam-packed with nifty gadgets and mind-boggling possibilities, a total playground for the tech enthusiasts out there!
